Endangered or Threatened Florida Sea Turtles
The Florida Kemp's Ridley Turtle
Lepidochelys kempii
The Endangered Kemp's Ridley is Florida's
smallest Sea Turtle, weighing about one hundred
pounds and reaching a length of up to two feet.
This little turtle eats a diet of primarily crabs.
A very rare and
most
Endangered Turtle, the Ridley
was put on the (ESA) list in 1973 and the threats to
it are as with the other Florida Sea turtles:
fishing accidents, in addition to nesting
and habitat destruction.
