The place now called
Florida was
originally inhabited
by
Indigenous people who had lived for thousands
of years content in their
culture, until the arrival
of European explorers
brought changes that
would irreparably
damage their lives.
Diseases brought by these strangers decimated the
unsuspecting Natives.
Those who survived were
either made into slaves by their captors,
or taken from their homes
and sent to neighboring Caribbean Islands.
The fate of Florida's
First people was little different than that of many
other Indigenous peoples, the explorers came, took without asking,
leaving the land and its people forever scarred.
